About 5 years ago, officials at drag-racing parts manufacturer RCD Engineering Inc. ended a wide search for machining software when the company found a European product seemingly tailored to its needs. Enthused about the purchase, RCD wasted little installing it to see how it performed. Shortly afterward, the software search was back on. "We had all kinds of problems getting post-processors," recalled Natchi Contre-ras, RCD general manager. "It actually messed up one of our machines." Specifically, errors within the software code program continually caused the company's vertical machining center to shut down.
