Making microneedles for eye surgery

FOR THE PAST 10 YEARS, workers at Promex Technologies LLC, Franklin, Ind., have been making a surgical microneedle that's become a mainstay for ophthalmologists worldwide. It's called the Millennium Lightning cutting system, produced for Bausch & Lomb, Rochester, N.Y. Doctors use the system during retinal or vitreal surgery to remove vitreous material behind the retina that may be diseased or, as is common in glaucoma, contributing to pressure buildup in the eye.
