Predictive maintenance of machine tools using vibration, temperature, pressure and other readings helps parts manufacturers ensure their equipment's health isn't slipping. Typically, that's done manually on a monthly basis, and a manufacturer compares the various readings to try and predict failures, according to Thomas Hoenig, president of GTI Spindle Technology Inc., which manufactures and repairs spindles. GTI teamed up with InCheck Technologies, a developer and supplier of condition monitoring products, to create the wireless MHM (Machine Health Monitor) for providing predictive maintenance information that's accessible anywhere and anytime.
