The Professors' Prize is a prestigious award given for achievement in research relating to clinical biochemistry. Dr Jason Gill, a Reader in Exercise Science at the University of Glasgow, was the recipient of this year's prize and his talk "Why diabetes isn't an equal opportunities disease" was one of the highlights of the programme at Cardiff. Diabetes is a huge problem across the globe and the number of diabetics, currently at 600 million worldwide, is increasing every year. We know that factors such as age, BMI, and inactivity increase the risk of diabetes.
