It has indeed been an interesting year for the marine industry.Sales of boats in 2005 have held up remarkably well in the face of increased prices, increased interest rates and another year disrupted by major hurricanes. It does appear that the consumer is alive and well and spending those important discretionary dollars on boats. The National Marine Manufacturers Association's(NMMA)projections on sales data for last year indicate that the industry reduced the number of units sold by three to four percent. However, the total dollars spent on new boats increased by seven to eight percent. This reflects a continued long-term trend to the appeal of larger, more expensive boats.
