I had the opportunity at the end of June to attend the launch of Tetra Pak's new E3 system, which replaces hydrogen peroxide with electron beam for paper finishing across the firm's carton lines. This event proves that the converting industry is still coming up with innovative ideas, despite a feeling in recent months that operational efficiency is replacing new developments. With run times speeding up and capacity requirements growing throughout the fast-moving consumer goods market, electron beam technology provides a benchmark in innovative converting that considerably reduces cost, waste and space, all within a more efficient platform.
