Coating provides a better barrier

Mondi Extrusion Coatings has developed a barrier coating -Miprotex -which not only offers "extremely good protection" against aromatics and grease, but also prevents the undesirable migration of mineral oil. In various tests, the new material is said to have showed "excellent results, which are comparable with those of EVOH laminates and hence guarantee an optimal mineral oil barrier". Miprotex is also claimed to be a cost-efficient alternative to traditional high banier materials such as aluminium and EVOH. In addition, says Mondi, it offers an excellent barrier against softeners and other substances, which can migrate into the food.
