Pruritus

Pruritus is the most common symptom in dermatology and has a significant impact on the quality of life of our patients. Significant progress has been achieved in understanding the pathophysiology of itch in the last 5 years. This monograph reviews the recent advances in pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management of pruritus. Clinical classification of pruritus, based upon improved understanding of the neurophysiology of itch is described. It is designed to be a source of information for dermatologists who treat itch. The organization of the sections in this text was based on views of how the reader can best utilize these materials.
