Railroad modernisation project to support Turkey’s steel demand

Turkey will modernise one of the key railroad links in the country. The project is expected to generally contribute to thecountry’s infrastructure construction but will benefit sole domestic rails producer Kardemir.Transport Ministry decided to upgrade a 200 km section of the main line which links Istanbul and the Bulgarian borderto the consortium of local construction and contracting firms, according to the local media. The accepted bid for the works was disclosed as EUR 489.2 million, the scope covering the dismantling and removal of the existing line betweenCerkezkoy and Kapikule and the construction of the new double track formation, Metal Expert learnt.
