Salzgitter expects weak profit in 2019 after strong 2018 results

German Salzgitter Group expects highest pre-tax profit in ten years in 2018. However, prospects for 2019 are gloomyamid pending cartel investigation, political and economic uncertainties.Salzgitter expects a pre-tax profit of EUR 347 million in 2018 compared to EUR 238 million in 2017, according to thegroup’s preliminary estimates. This is the best pre-tax result in last 10 years and fifth consecutive year of growth forthe company, Metal Expert learnt. The producer noted additional positive effects of its profit improvement programsof EUR 150 million. At the same time, the results include EUR 63 million financial provisions amid ongoing GermanFederal Cartel Office investigation against plate and strip steel producers.
