Biofuel groups urge EPA to stop RFS waivers, increase biofuels blending

On July 18, Lucy Norton, Managing Director at the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association, called on the US EPA to stop issuing waivers for Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) requirements to small (<75K b/d) US refineries. Tom Brooks, General Manager of Western Dubuque Biodiesel and Chair of the Iowa Biodiesel Board, added "The impact of these exemptions is like wiping out a year's worth of production in the nation's top biodiesel-producing state." The EPA released data in the week ending July 13 that it has issued 48 such waivers for the years 2016 and 2017, representing some 2.25B gal (73K b/d) of biofuels.
