Pakistani importers must cease buying gasoline lower than Euro 5 starting this Aug. and diesel lower than Euro 5 starting Jan. 1 2021, compared to imports of Euro 2 road fuels currently. This development will no doubt increase demand for cleaner fuels, but since the middle of June, Pakistan's gasoline supplies have been tight, which has already prompted state-owned importer Pakistan State Oil to increase imports by two additional medium-range tankers each month and to increase cargo sizes from 45K mt (382.5K bbl) previously to 55K mt (467.5K bbl). Meanwhile, Pakistan's refineries are not equipped to produce cleaner fuels, which will likely necessitate imports for the time being.
