In April, domestic gasoline sales were 23% lower on the year at 664K b/d while exports doubled over the same period to 45K b/d, according to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. Domestic sales of gasoline and diesel recovered from 75% of year-earlier levels in May to 90% of year-earlier levels during June 1-18 and from 89% of year-earlier levels in May to 95% of year-earlier levels during June 1-18, respectively. Even though consumption of gasoline has risen in recent weeks, Japan's jet fuel consumption is expected to recover at a much slower rate after declining 76% compared to year-earlier levels to 22K b/d in June. On the other hand, multiple domestic airlines plan to resume flights starting on July 1.
