On Sept.14,the US EPA denied 54 applications from 17 refineries seeking small refinery exemptions(SREs)to biofuel blending obligations under the Renewable Fuel Standard(RFS)requirements from 2011 to 2018,arguing that the refineries have not provided new information to merit the exemptions.The RFS only allows refineries with processing capacity less than 75K b/d to qualify.Previously,the Trump administration had vasdy increased the number of exemptions granted to small refineries for prior obligations.On Sept.12,President Trump announced on Twitter that fuel stations will be allowed to use ElO(gasoline with 10% ethanol content)pumps to dispense El 5(gasoline with 15% ethanol content),"subject only to state approval."
