Dom Invt at The End of Mar Slightly Increases by Growth of Purchase

Concerning the demand and supply balance of domestic ferrous scrap in March, both purchase and consumption posted positive growth from a month ago. The inventory of carbon steel scrap at the end of the month increased from a month ago for the 1st time in 3 months, because the increase of purchase was larger than that of consumption, according to the survey by Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. The total purchase quantity of carbon steel was 2,197,000 tons, slightly down by 0.8% from the same month of a year ago, but up by 18.7% from a month ago. The total purchase quantity of carbon steel, alloyed steel, and ferrous scrap declined to 2,333,000 tons, down by 1.7% from the same month of a year ago, but it increased by 18.1% from a month ago. The quantity of carbon steel scrap arising from self-generation reached the highest level at 871,000 tons for the first time in 12 months since March 2018.
