We have been contacted by several authors of the article by Kajstura J et al., Evidence for Human Lung Stem Cells, N Engl J Med 2011;364:1795-1806.(1) An investigation by Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women's Hospital has determined that some of the images in the article were manipulated. The authors tell us that a review of the original data affirms this conclusion and has led us to conclude that we no longer have faith in the veracity of these images.
