Indian power plant coal stocks up 5%

Improvements in domestic supply have continued to lift coal stocks at Indian power plants this week. The average forward cover rose to 17 days burn as of March 12, from 16 days a week ago, according to Central Electricity Authority (CEA) data.Stocks at the 126 CEA-monitored plants were 28.12 mt on March 12, up 5% on the week, from 26.88 mt on March 5. Stocks on March 12 were up 25% on the month, 93% on the quarter and 70% on the year (see table). CEA was monitoring 151.06 GW of capacity (126 plants), up from 149.86 GW (125 plants) a month ago, 149.06 GW (124 plants) a quarter ago and 138.30 GW (114 plants) a year ago.
