There’s a comfortable familiarity with the new look of U.S. coal powerhouse Contura Energy. It’s a familiarity that breeds high expectations. CEO Kevin Crutchfield and his team in Bristol, Tenn., have re-melded with old acquaintances at Alpha Natural Resources in a merger late last year and now comes the fun part: making all the existing synergies sing in 2019. Contura announced on Thursday it expects coal shipments this year to be in the neighborhood of 24.6- 26.7 million tons.
