THE plastics exports are likely to remain flat this year following the global economic downturn and a decline in raw material prices,however,the government has set a target to triple exports to USD 1 trillion in five years,exporters body said Mr Sribash Dashmohapatra ED,(Plexconcil) the Plastics Export Promotion Council recently in Mumbai.”Plastic exports have been growing since the last two years.It grew by 17 per cent in 2017-18 at USD 8.85 billion and 24 per cent in 2018-19 at USD 10.89 billion.However,it declined by 3.9 per cent in the first half of this year and is expected to recover in second half finish the year flat compared to last year,The main reason for the slowdown in exports is the economic downturn in the export markets and a decline in raw materials prices”,he added.
