ON 01 October 2018,Circular Economy Asia Inc,launched the Asian Plastics & Packaging Agreement(APPA),in order to tackle the abundance of plastics and packaging in our shared oceans and land,bringing stakeholders together under one framework to sign a voluntary pledge to agree to set targets is now becoming a global trend. Circular Economy Asia Inc,an Australian NGO based in Malaysia,has taken the lead and initiative by formulating such a framework specifically for the Asian region and other emerging markets. What sets APPA apart from other voluntary pledges is the imperative for each country in the Asia Pacific region to begin the process to establish and build capacity to manage and maintain a sustainable and circular plastics and packaging industry locally. The Circular Economy is a whole new economic system. It is not business as usual and it represents the only truly sustainable economic model for future generations. Yet such a massive change is going to take unprecedented collaboration between all sectors and stakeholders in every society and country on this tiny blue planet. Not only does the Circular Economy herald in a new economic era,it also demands an international alliance never before experienced in the history of humankind.
