Two new Cd(II) supramolecular coordination polymers (CPs) formulated as [Cd(L1)(DCTP)](n) (1) and ([Cd (L2)(HBTC)(H2O)]center dot H2O](n) (2) [H2DCTP = 2,5-dichloroterephthalic acid, H3BTC = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid, L1 = 1,3-bis(2-methylbenzimidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene and L2 = 1,2-bis(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene] were hydrothermally synthesized. Both CPs exhibit 2D (4,4) layered structures and further extend into 3D supramolecular frameworks by pi-pi stacking interactions for CP 1, O-H center dot center dot center dot O classic hydrogen bonding interactions for CP 2, respectively. The luminescence and photocatalytic properties of CPs 1-2 for the degradation of methylene blue also presented. (C) 2018 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
