Singapore—A 21-day lockdown announced Tuesday in India, world’s second largest coal consuming nation, has put a lid on optimism for potential upside of the near-term seaborne thermal coal prices, sources said Wednesday. Amid sagging Kalimantan coal prices nearing the cost of production for some miners, India-based buyers were heard to be facing difficulty in performing on their contracted procurements amid the country’s lockdown.
