EU to study rebalancing EU oil product, energy taxes

Brussels-The European Commission is researching how to change EU energy taxes to help achieve the bloc’s climate goals, including tackling the imbalance between diesel and other petroleum taxes, EU finance commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis said Saturday. Current EU minimum rates favoring diesel as a transport fuel over other petroleum products have contributed to “excessive dieselization” of Europe’s road vehicles, the EC said in an evaluation published Thursday of the 2003 EU energy taxation directive.
