KGHM posts 29% jump in Sierra Gorda copper output, but moly falls

Santiago—Production at the Sierra Gorda copper mine in northern Chile surged in the first three months of the year because of higher throughput and improved ore grades, operator KGHM said Thursday in its latest production report. The mine produced around 34,500 mt of copper during the quarter, up 29% from the same period of last year, the company said KGHM owns 55% of the open-pit mine which entered production in 2014. The balance of shares is held by Sumitomo Corp and Sumitomo Metals & Mining.
