London bus garage to become ‘virtual power station’

A bus garage in North London is set to become a “virtual power station”, generating electricity from electric buses when not in use, the companies behind the project said Aug. 13. Just under 100 new zero-emissions electric buses will be involved in the project at Northumberland Park — one of the largest electric bus facilities in Europe, and believed by the organizers to be the world’s largest vehicle-to-grid (V2G) trial site. “V2G technology enables energy stored in an electric vehicle’s battery to be fed back into the electricity network,” said SSE Enterprise, which builds, owns and operates energy and communications infrastructure in the UK and Ireland.
