US diecaster buying spurs climb in A380 alloy to 79-81 cents

The Platts US aluminum A380 price inched up 1 cent to 79-81 cents/lb, delivered Midwest, Oct. 8, from 78-80 cents on Oct. 5 as diecasters hit the spot market for tonnages. The range of reported trades was wide at 78-84 cents, with the majority at 78-82 cents. Multiple diecasters reported purchases at the end of the week, in a wide range of 78-82 cents, noting that they were having a tough time securing supplies. One diecaster bought two loads of 383 at 79 cents from a smelter with typical terms. “Our demand looks pretty good for the next few months,” he said.
