China’s refined copper output hit 853,000 mt in May, up 13.3% year on year and 4.2% month on month, according to latest data released by the National Bureau of Statistics, reflecting stronger demand. Market sources, however, expect the output in June to be slightly lower than that in May, as more Chinese smelters are expected to cut production due to maintenance and raw material supply tightness. China’s total output of refined copper reached 3.97 million mt in the first five months of 2020, up 2.7% compared to the same period last year.
