Refined copper surplus forecast to grow in 2020, 2021: IWCC

The International Wrought Copper Council is forecasting global refined copper supply to reach a 285,000 mt surplus in 2020 and a 675,000 mt surplus in 2021 due to weakened demand caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the group said Wednesday. “These are unprecedented times and the copper industry is not immune from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic,” the IWCC said in a report. “The economic disruption and its impact on the copper industry has resulted in greater uncertainty in the factors affecting the supply and demand for copper.”
