Washington—European spot prices for silicon and magnesium jumped up this week amid reports that some consumers were covering delays or potential shortfalls in Chinese shipments due to the effects of the coronavirus. The Platts weekly assessment for 553- grade silicon metal rose to €1,725-€1,825/mt in-warehouse EU, duty-paid, from €1,700- €1,725 last week.
