China’s May lithium carbonate exports plunge 53.5%

China’s lithium carbonate exports fell 53.5% year on year to 519,513 kg in May, and were down 13.9% from April, amid a sharp decline in demand from South Korea, according to S&P Global Platts calculations July 1, based on China’s latest General Administration of Customs data. In contrast, the country’s lithium hydroxide exports surged 75.7% on year to 5,955,676 kg in May, and were up 17.9% from April, the calculations showed. Global lithium hydroxide demand remained strong as vehicle makers increasingly adopt highnickel models. China is the world’s largest lithium hydroxide converter.
