Barrick Gold close to settling tax dispute with Mali gov’t: CEO

London—The government of Mali and Barrick Gold are near to settling a three-year long $80-million indirect tax dispute, with the Canadian gold miner expecting to conclude the mediation process soon, Barrick CEO Mark Bristow said Sunday. The government said in 2016 that Kankou Moussa, a bullion bank that sold gold produced by Barrick Gold’s predecessor Randgold Resources from the Loulo- Gounkoto gold complex, owed $80 million in back taxes along with Societe des Mines de Gounkoto and Somilo, two companies that operated the complex.
