London—Aluminium of Greece, the largest European alumina and aluminium producer, is planning to expand its alumina refinery at the industrial complex in Agios Nikolaos, Viotia, in Greece, with the project now awaiting a final investment decision, a company spokesman said Wednesday. A source close to company’s metallurgy unit operations said earlier this week that the FID on the expansion was expected in the first quarter of 2020, which, if it went ahead, would more than double the refinery’s capacity to around 1.7 million mt a year of alumina from 820,000 mt/year now.
