摘要

Lusaka—Mining companies in Zambia are withholding over $630 million meant for in- vestment in the sector after the introduction of new duties and royalties as fears heighten over the introduction of the gross sales tax on September 1, Zambian Chamber of Mines CEO Sokwani Chilembo said Wednesday. Amid repeated appeals for dialogue with the Zambian government by mining operators over the regulations the security of tenure on investment remains uncertain. “There’s no feedback yet on this matter which has impacted negatively on the industry,” Chilembo told S&P Global Platts. “We projected before the budget, over US$630 million for investment in new and old projects but many companies have not released it.”
