A new species of the Indian caecilian genus Gegeneophis Peters (Amphibia: Gymnophiona: Caeciliidae) from the surroundings of Mahadayi Wildlife Sanctuary, Western Ghats

A new species of Indian caecilian, Gegeneophis mhade-iensis (Amphibia: Gymnophiona: Caeciliidae) is described based on three specimens collected from the Western Ghats, northern Karnataka, India. The species is distinguished from all other Gegeneophisby a combination of the number of primary and secondary annuli. One of the paratypes is an albino.
