Singapore—China’s primary aluminum output is on track to fall this year due to weak downstream demand from property construction and automakers, according to the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association (CNIA). China’s primary aluminum output will drop 1.6% this year to 36 million mt, while consumption declines 1.2% to 36.5 million mt, CNIA said in data presented at a conference in Qingdao last week. CNIA said China had restricted aluminum output growth, which had helped the profitability of smelters.
