Air Liquide Enters Accord with.Methanex To Supply Gas to Geismar Methanol Unit

Geismar-Air Liquide has signed an agreement with Methanex to supply oxygen,nitrogen and utilities to Methanex's planned methanol expansion in Geismar,La.(PCN,29 July 2019,-p 1).Methanex recently announced a final investment decision to build the Geismar 3 methanol facility,which will have 1.8-million t/y of production capacity and be located adjacent to the company's existing Geismar 1 and Geismar 2 facilities.Operations are expected to begin in the second half of 2022.Under the deal,Air Liquide will invest over $270-million in two new large air separation imits(ASUs),with a capacity of 2,500 t/d of oxygen each,and infrastructure assets connected to its Mississippi River Pipeline System.The ASUs,which will increase the Mississippi River Pipeline's capacity by more than 25%,will supply Methanex and other customers in the industrial basin that encompasses Geismar and Baton Rouge,La.
