Ferrara-LyondellBasell said it has successfully started up its new small-scale MoReTec molecular recycling plant at its site in Ferrara, Italy (PCN, 21 Oct 2019, p 4). The company's proprietary technology aims to convert typically difficult to recycle plastic waste, such as multilayer films, returning them to their molecular state to be used as feedstock to produce new plastic for all applications. While the process is based on chemical recycling, it also includes a proprietary catalyst-based approach.
