London—The Turkish ferrous scrap market was surprised Wednesday by a fresh US booking that pulled up prices by $10/mt on day as mills procure their June scrap needs. S&P Global Platts assessed Turkish imports of premium heavy melting scrap 1/2 (80:20) at $310/mt CFR, up $10/mt from Tuesday. While market players throughout the day were indicating value for the heavy melting scrap grade at $300-$305/mt CFR on stronger signs from the finished steel market, the US booking took the majority of industry sources by surprise.
