Western Australia’s state government will lift a state-wide ban on fracking after a scientific review concluded that if the drilling process and location is properly executed, the risks to the environment and people are low. However, the ban will only be lifted on existing onshore petroleum licenses. Over 98% of the state will remain frack-free and for the first time, traditional owners and farmers will have the right to say no to oil and gas production from fracking on their land.
