YPF, Petronas to Launch $2.3B Vaca Muerta Project

Argentina’s state-controlled YPF and Malaysian state Petronas announced this week that they have reached an agreement to jointly start up full development of the La Amarga Chica block in Argentina’s Vaca Muerta Shale. The companies will invest $2.3 billion as part of a 50-50 partnership over the next four years in La Amarga Chica, located in eastern Neuquen province, with an aim to boost production in the play from less than 10,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day currently to 60,000 boe/d by 2022.
