The number of rigs drilling for oil in the US remained mostly flat last week, with only small changes seen in major basins in Texas, New Mexico, Colorado and North Dakota. The oil rig count has been relatively volatile over the past month, jumping from 858 to 869 from late July to mid-August before settling at 862 for the week ended Aug. 31, data from oil-field service provider Baker Hughes indicates.
