Relieving Permian Bottlenecks Could Hinder Other US Plays

While Permian Basin producers will welcome the availability of another 2 million barrels per day of takeaway capacity next year, the pipelines may exacerbate issues already present in the prolific play and beyond. With fewer workers to get the crude above ground and a greater expense for them to do it, the new pipelines may present more roadblocks as producers drive for better capital efficiency. On top of that, the Permian’s pipeline constraints could shift to other US tight oil basins.
