Venezuela Widens Corruption Charges Against Ex-Oil Minister

Venezuela’s government has made new corruption allegations against Rafael Ramirez, a former oil minister and president of state oil company Petroleos de Venezuela (PDV), accusing the once- powerful official of conspiring to underprice Venezuelan crude exports. In a televised speech on Friday, Attorney General Tarek William Saab accused Ramirez of conspiring with Austrian research firm JBC Energy to misprice the so-called “K factor” of Venezuelan crude. The K factor adjusts the price formula in accordance with the relative prices of competing grades.
