The plans by a Canadian company to establish an oil sands business south of the border in Utah appears to have finally ground to a halt after six years, during which small bitumen producers proved no match for big, well-financed Canadian-based operators. This week, a Canadian court appointed a receiver to assume management of Calgary-based US Oil Sands after a last-ditch effort by the company to establish commercial operations at its plant in eastern Utah in the PR Spring region, apparently exceeding its budget without advancing beyond the pre-production stage.
