Russia, Rosneft Filling Void in Venezuela

Editor's note: This article is the first in a two-part series analyzing Rosneft and Russia's growing influence on Venezuelan politics and its struggling oil industry. While China remains the largest financial lender to Venezuela, Russia and its state oil giant Rosneft are arguably the most hands-on allies, providing loans, military equipment, consulting, and most recently crude oil and petroleum products trading assistance to help the Opec country in the face of harsh US sanctions.
