BP Spill Trial to Unfold in Phases

US District Judge Carl Barbier said Friday that the BP Gulf of Mexico oil spill trial will start in New Orleans on Feb. 27 and will take place in three phases. Barbier is overseeing cases that represent more than 10,000 claims filed in connection with the disaster. Barbier said the first phase will focus on the causes of the blowout at BP’s Macondo oil well, the subsequent explosion and fire on the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig and the release of oil from the well.
