Industry insiders are confident the US government will not force operators in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico to shut in production even as the novel coronavirus continues to spread across offshore facilities in the region. A source at one US Gulf producer told Energy Intelligence he was “dubious” following a report last week indicating the Trump administration had discussed mandated shut-ins in the Gulf to combat spread of the virus.
