With oil crushed by a flood of cheap Saudi barrels and demand clobbered by the coronavirus, crude futures have moved into a super contango, a price structure in which prompt barrels are much cheaper than longer-dated contracts. This gives investors a strong incentive to store oil and wait for better days — if they can find somewhere to stash it.
