Independent refiner Marathon Petroleum is looking to expand its footprint in renewable diesel while warning of tough times ahead for traditional petroleum processing. Speaking to investors and analysts during a conference call to discuss its third-quarter earnings, Marathon, the largest independent refiner in the US, said its new Dickinson, North Dakota, renewable diesel facility started operations three weeks ahead of schedule. The company also said it has filed permits related to the conversions of its Martinez, California, refinery to produce renewable diesel.
