Production at Kazakhstan’s giant Karachaganak field, one of the world’s largest gas and condensate fields, fell sharply in September after a major overhaul for repairs. Output at the field operated jointly by Royal Dutch Shell and Eni, plummeted by 43% year on year to 114,360 b/d. A spokesman for the consortium, Karachaganak Petroleum Operating Co., said 12,000 people worked around the clock in two shifts on the month-long turnaround that started on Sep. 15. Production has resumed after the company’s largest-ever pro- gram of “preventive scheduled re- pairs,” the spokesman said.
